Neurological Rehabilitation

What is Transverse Myelitis?

It is defined as inflammation of both sides of a section of the spinal cord. The inflammation experienced here damages the system surrounding the nerve cell fibers (myelin) as a neurological disorder. In this case, disruptions occur in the communication of the spinal nerves with the whole body. Problems such as muscle weakness, paralysis, bladder problems, and bowel problems are likely to occur.

What are the Symptoms of Transverse Myelitis?

Symptoms such as sudden pain in the waist, arms or legs, tingling, burning or numbness, and weakness in the arms and legs are encountered.

How is Transverse Myelitis Treated?

Although the treatment process varies primarily depending on the course of the disease, it continues to tend to reduce inflammation and pain. In moderate cases, the process is carried out with drug treatments such as corticosteroids, steroids and immunosuppressants. In transverse myelitis rehabilitation, stretching and stretching exercises, strengthening exercises, walking training, electrotherapy applications to reduce pain, and hot-cold applications are successfully performed in our hospital.

What is Guillain Barre Syndrome?

It is a rare, serious neurological and autoimmune disease in which the body's immune system attacks nerves (part of the peripheral nervous system). It is a very serious and life-threatening disease that causes permanent damage. It is not characterized by infectious and hereditary causes. The exact cause is unknown.

What are the symptoms of Guillain Barre Syndrome?

Sensation or pain along with muscle weakness that begins in the back, feet, and hands and often spreads to the arms and upper body are important symptoms. Numbness, pins and needles sensation, muscle weakness, and pain in these areas are common symptoms, especially in the arms, legs, and feet. In advanced cases, symptoms such as difficulty in moving, walking, breathing and swallowing may be observed.

How is Guillain Barre Syndrome Treated?

The healing process is followed by rapid treatment with intravenous immunoglobulins or plasmapheresis and supportive care. For rehabilitation, treatment is carried out through a process such as electrotherapy, hot and cold applications, early mobilization and walking exercises.
