The special function that focuses on children expressing their needs through games and toys is called play therapy. Play is a tool through which children express both their experiences and emotions. Play enables the child to develop, adopt and integrate new cognitive and social skills, values and moral judgments. Children attempt to explain their situations over and over again through their games. Play therapy is for children what psychological counseling is for adults.

Adults express their problems with words, children with games. Additionally, children cannot understand and talk about their emotions like adults. When play is used as therapy for children, a space is created for the child to express his experiences and emotions. During play, children recreate their anger, fear, sadness and disappointment that affect their behavior.
