Orbital Surgery - Oculoplasty

As a concept formed by the combination of reconstructive surgery and ophthalmic plastic surgery, oculoplasty deals with the eyelids, orbit, eye area and tear system. The orbit is the bony socket surrounding the eye. Diseases in this area fall within the scope of orbital surgery. Eye diseases occur as a result of some disorders in the thyroid gland affecting the eye. Graves' disease, also known as toxic thyroid, is a tendency for the eyes to bulge forward when the thyroid gland is overactive in eye diseases.

The body's excessive thyroid secretion causes such a reaction. Some tests are performed to diagnose the disease. The disease is diagnosed through tests such as examination of thyroid hormones in the blood, thyroid scintigraphy and uptake. Medical methods (B-Blocker and Anti Thyroid drugs, etc.) are preferred for the treatment of the disease and an operation is performed when deemed necessary. The branch that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of all kinds of eye tumors is called 'Ocular Oncology'. Tumors affecting the eye and its surroundings are classified as eyelid tumors, intraocular tumors, orbital tumors and conjunctiva tumors. Although tumor formation in and around the eye is not very common, if it occurs, it can cause eye loss. The basic principle in ocular oncology is to make treatment decisions that will not endanger the patient's life. It is important to correctly diagnose and treat tumors located in the eye and surrounding tissues.  An oculoplastic surgery is performed by an ophthalmologist specialized in this field. This surgery is used to treat tear vascular occlusions.

In oculoplastic surgery, all tissues in the eye area are included in this area. Forehead, cheeks, eyebrows, eyelids, tear system, etc. Surgical and aesthetic operations in the fields are oculoplastic surgery. The size, size and posture of the eyelids are very important in terms of aesthetics and visual quality.

Likewise, treating drooping eyelids and removing under-eye bags is known as blepharoplasty. Likewise, ptosis is an eye disease that can cause problems both aesthetically and in terms of vision quality. A droopy eyelid is when the lid at the top of the eye tends to droop downward. Situations such as this occur due to involuntary situations such as excessive tension of the eyelid muscles or their failure to function. Sometimes it occurs depending on age.
