Myocardial Diseases

Another disease that our hospital's cardiology clinic deals with is myocardial diseases. Myocardium means heart muscle.

What are Myocardial Diseases?

Myocarditis, which is inflammation of the heart muscle, and cardiomyopathy, which means heart muscle involvement, are diseases that can prevent the functions of the heart. Myocarditis is caused by inflammation of the heart muscle, which makes up a large part of the heart. Heart muscle can become inflamed by viruses, bacteria, fungi and pharmacological factors. As a result of the inflammation, deterioration occurs in the heart muscle cells. Drug use, unprotected sexual intercourse and lack of attention to hygiene cause viral infections and lead to myocardial diseases. Depending on the extent of damage to the muscle, myocarditis can lead to more serious illness, the possibility of clots and a heart attack. Cardiomyopathy Also known as muscle involvement, this disease is caused by dehydration, muscle fatigue or electrolyte. Immune disorders and hereditary transmission can cause cardiomyopathy. The course and symptoms of the disease may vary from person to person. What are the symptoms of myocardial diseases? Symptoms of asymptomatic myocardial diseases include respiratory problems, chest pain, increased heart rate, malaise, fever, sore throat, malaise, edema and joint pain. While every symptom may not be seen in every patient, it may occur at different courses and rates in patients with symptoms. Cardiomyopathy is a symptomatic disease and its symptoms may vary from patient to patient and may include cramps, paralysis, pain, muscle weakness and fatigue, regional stiffness and speech impairment.

Diagnosis of Myocardial Diseases For the diagnosis of myocarditis, radiological tests such as perfusion scintigraphy, holter ECG, ECHO, chest x-ray and MRI and laboratory tests related to inflammation are used, and if deemed necessary as a result of these tests, catheterization and biopsy can be performed. Cardiomyopathy is diagnosed as a result of ECG, holter ECG, ECHO, MRI, chest x-ray and, when necessary, biological tests and biopsy. Treatment of Myocardial Diseases The treatment applied after the diagnosis of myocarditis varies from individual to individual depending on the course of the inflammation. Drug treatment is started to reduce inflammation and edema resulting from inflammation.

If the disease progresses slowly, ventricular support and aortic pump applications can be performed. Patients whose myocarditis causes heart failure may require a heart transplant. Cardiomyopathy treatment varies from patient to patient, similar to myocarditis treatment. Blood exchange, drug therapy and, when necessary, physiotherapy can be applied to the patient who has undergone surgery. The aim of the treatment is to reduce the patient's muscle fatigue and ensure comfortable functioning of the heart. Our cardiologist will help you by diagnosing the disease with diagnostic methods and planning the best treatment method for you by contacting the infectious diseases unit.
