mammography

Mammography (breast ultrasonography) is an imaging method that is important in diagnosing breast cancer at an early stage.

For breast cancer, which is a common occurrence among women, it is recommended that individuals have routine mammography, especially after the age of 40, even if they do not have any complaints. Mammography is an x-ray image of the breasts used in breast cancer screening.  Mammograms are key to early breast cancer detection and help reduce breast cancer deaths.

During a mammogram, your breasts are compressed between two hard surfaces to spread the breast tissue.  An X-ray then captures black-and-white images of your breasts, which are displayed on a computer screen and examined by a doctor looking for signs of cancer.

With mammography, black and white images of breast tissue (mammograms) are produced.  Mammograms are digital images that appear on a computer screen. The radiologist interprets and reports these images. Additional examinations may be requested as necessary in line with the report.

In Which Situations Should Mammography Be Performed?

In addition to the routine recommended period, it should be performed in cases such as hardness in the hand during manual examination at the outpatient clinic, a mass in the breast, discharge from the nipple, pain, thickening of the skin, and changes in the size and shape of the breast.
