What are the causes of urinary incontinence?


The most common causes of urinary incontinence: 

  • Hormone deficiency 

  • Weakness of the pelvic floor muscles 

  • Urinary incontinence due to neurological diseases Urinary tract infection 

  • Prostate enlargement 

  • Previous pelvic surgeries 

  • Previous prostate surgeries 

  • Birth 

  • Menopause  

There are different types of urinary incontinence, depending on how and when the patient leaks urine. This type of urinary incontinence depends on which part of the urinary tract is affected. 

stress urinary incontinence (SUI) is the condition of urinary incontinence during the following activities; 

Coughing, sneezing, laughing Exercises such as running and jumping Lifting heavy loads such as shopping items 

Urge (urinary incontinence): It is a type of urinary incontinence with sudden urgency in the bladder. More detailed information is provided in the overactive bladder section.


What are the Diagnostic Methods for Urinary Incontinence?


Cystometry (EMG) test Pelvic Ultrasound Post-Void Residual Study Urine Analysis Cystoscopy What are the Treatment Methods? After the examinations, lifestyle changes and exercises to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles are recommended, depending on the amount and level of urinary incontinence. If it is not sufficient, drug treatments are applied. Surgical treatment methods are applied to patients with insufficient results. TOT/TVT (Bladder suspension surgeries) are performed in patients with stress urinary incontinence. Bladder augmentation (bladder enlargement surgery) is performed as a surgical method in patients with urge-type urinary incontinence.
