Hemorrhoids

One of the diseases that our patients who come to our hospital's general surgery clinic frequently experience problems with is hemorrhoids.

What are Hemorrhoids?

This disease, popularly known as "hemorrhoids", is the expansion of the arteries at the bottom of the anus and rectum, at the end of the anal canal. These swollen arteries become irritated and protrude outside the anus. They are divided into two: internal hemorrhoids and external hemorrhoids. Internal hemorrhoids are located inside the anus and are less painful than external hemorrhoids.

External hemorrhoids are located under the skin of the anus and cause pain, especially when defecating. Internal hemorrhoids can cause anal fistula and perianal abscesses. Causes of hemorrhoids include genetics, diet, spicy and spicy foods, drinking less water, excessive alcohol consumption and pregnancy in women.

What are the symptoms of hemorrhoids?

The main symptoms of hemorrhoids, also known as hemorrhoids or hemorrhoids, are difficulty in defecation, pain, pain and blood in the stool. Pain, bleeding, swelling, itching and a mass in the anus area are other symptoms. The symptom that does not occur frequently in internal hemorrhoids is pain, while pain is a symptom that is more common in external hemorrhoids. Hemorrhoid Diagnosis and Treatment: When diagnosing hemorrhoids, the patient's complaints are first listened to in detail. After the patient undergoes anal examination, colonoscopy is recommended if hemorrhoids are detected. Rectoscopy can be performed on patients with bleeding complaints. Once the disease is diagnosed, diet and nutrition planning is made for treatment, depending on the severity of the disease, as it is a digestive system disease.

A program can be made that avoids foods that increase hemorrhoids and focuses on foods high in fiber and olive oil. You should drink plenty of water, stay away from red meat, and avoid hot and spicy foods. Regular exercises are also part of the treatment as it will increase mobility and speed up the digestive system. Drugs, creams and pomades that facilitate defecation and regulate bowel functions are used as drug treatment. Surgery may be required for larger hemorrhoids.

Surgery is usually performed with epidural or general anesthesia. With surgery, the likelihood of the disease recurring is less. After diagnosing the disease, our general surgeon will determine the most appropriate treatment method for you according to the course and severity of the disease, organize your treatment and assist you.
