Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity

Attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is defined by the concepts of attention deficit, hyperactivity and impulsivity. It is one of the most common problems in children and adolescents. Being active is a normal feature of childhood. Excessive mobility can be mentioned in cases where the mobility is significantly higher than that of peers and where these behaviors create problems for friends, family and/or teachers in daily functions such as play and school, that is, they affect the child's functionality. Hyperactivity is a psychological disorder in which children have difficulty controlling themselves, are unusually mobile, and are abnormally active. Children diagnosed with hyperactivity are seen to speak quickly and without thinking and to react suddenly. They have difficulty performing any activity quietly. Children with ADHD have difficulty concentrating their attention on one point. Being easily distracted by external stimuli can cause forgetfulness. Symptoms such as difficulty maintaining order, frequently losing belongings and toys, and forgetting responsibilities and tasks may also indicate attention problems. Children with ADHD may experience problems in home and school life. They may have difficulty sitting still when they need to study or do homework. Behaviors such as difficulty waiting for one's turn, answering before the question is finished, haste, interrupting others' words, and the negative impact on the child's functionality as a result of these behaviors may indicate that the child may have impulsivity problems. When diagnosing ADHD, as many sources as possible are used. Information is obtained from parents, teachers, school guidance units and people who know the child closely. It should be known that although ADHD provides significant improvement when treated, it will cause psychiatric and social problems if left untreated. While it can be accompanied by psychotherapy methods and drug treatment in some cases, it can be applied alone in some cases. It seems that using behavioral therapy method is beneficial for children to acquire the right habits.
