Depression

Depression is a mood disorder that causes a persistent state of sadness and loss of interest in previously enjoyed activities.  Daily events can negatively affect people's mood. A person who feels sad due to daily events may feel good again with positive developments, but people with depression do not feel better depending on the events. What are the types of depression?

Peripartum (postpartum): Depression that occurs in the postpartum period, from a few weeks to a few months after birth. Seasonal features: Depression triggered by seasonal changes and periods of less exposure to sunlight. Melancholic features: Depression seen with reluctance to do something that was previously pleasurable, worsening mood during the early morning awakening, and depression that may be accompanied by weakness or agitation. Depression is a medical condition that requires treatment. The earlier treatment starts, the more effective it is. Depression can often be treated with medication, psychotherapy, or a combination of the two.
