Nose Diseases

Inflammation of the nose and sinuses: Inflammation of the mucosa lining the sinus cavities is called sinusitis. There are eight sinuses in total, four on the right and left sides. glands in the sinus mucosa 0.5-1 lt per day. mucus accumulates. It is a disease caused by mucus or snot being discharged into the sinuses rather than being transferred to the nose. Conditions such as cystic fibrosis movement disorders, HIV infection (AIDS), chemotherapy, use of drugs that suppress the body defense system, insulin-dependent diabetes and some connective tissue diseases and immune functions can cause sinusitis by disrupting mucus production and or transportation. The disease progresses as major and minor. In major sinusitis, symptoms such as facial pain, swelling, nasal and postnasal drip, and nasal congestion are observed. Minor sinusitis causes symptoms such as headache, toothache and cough.

Antibiotic treatment is started in sinusitis classified as acute, subacute and chronic. "Endoscopic Sinus Surgery" is performed by specialist physicians in our hospital for chronic sinusitis patients. Nasal Congestion, Allergic Flu, Smell Disorders: It is a condition in which the body shows an allergic reaction to pollen, house dust, medicine, chemicals and some foods. The immune system is the body's response to these allergens entering the body. Sensitive immune system, chemical allergens, house dust and mites, animal dander and some environmental factors are important risk factors for the development of this disease. Symptoms include constant sneezing, nasal congestion and runny nose, watery eyes, postnasal drip, headache, and dry cough. In its treatment, antihistamines (oral and spray), cortisone (corticosteroid) sprays, saline and nasal drops are prescribed. Tumors in the Nose and Sinus Area: Benign tumors called 'papillomas' are common in the nose and surrounding sinuses. Papillomas can sometimes turn into malignant tumors. Fibromas, neuromas and osteomas are less common benign tumors.

MRI and computed tomography are required to diagnose these diseases. Since its symptoms are similar to sinusitis, it is likely to be noticed in advanced stages. The treatment process proceeds surgically. Surgery is also required for the treatment of malignant tumor. It is also applied after radiotherapy and chemotherapy and surgery. Nasal Polyp Treatment: These are light pink colored masses that appear inside the nose and in the nasal cavities, resulting from inflammation of the mucosa in the sinus and nasal tract. Nasal polyps can be seen due to reasons such as hereditary causes, allergies, chronic sinusitis, and drug sensitivity. The course of the disease is monitored by administering steroid-containing drugs into the nose. During the follow-up examination, computerized tomography is requested to check the severity of the disease. Depending on the situation, endoscopic sinus surgery may be recommended. Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (FESS) The main purpose of endoscopic sinus surgery is to clean the problematic tissues and fluids accumulated in the sinuses and to re-ventilate the sinuses. It is achieved by eliminating the disease that blocks the excretory duct in the sinus. Endoscopic sinus surgery method is used in the treatment of many diseases such as chronic sinusitis, nasal polyposis, treatment of benign and malignant diseases inside the nose, reduction of nasal flesh, correction of intranasal curvatures (deviations).

The procedure is carried out under general anesthesia through the nose with the help of a special technological device with a camera at its tip. The procedure is completed without making an incision or stitching, with the help of a tool called a microshaver. Nose Deformities, Septum Deviation Surgery Septum deviation refers to the curvatures in the midline of the nose. Curvatures in the bone and cartilage structures in the midline of the nose are corrected by surgical intervention. This surgery is known as septoplasty. The process takes approximately 40 minutes. We have successfully performed standard closed technique septoplasty surgeries in our hospital.
