Computed Tomography

In computerized tomography, there is a tube that gives x-rays and detectors that capture these rays. The patient is in between these two. Thus, the x-rays are captured by detectors after passing through the patient. Since the atomic densities of the body's tissues are different, the x-ray captured by each tissue is different and thus tissue images are created.

The tube and detectors rotate 360 degrees around the patient and display a cross-section of that part of the body.

In Which Situations Is Computed Tomography Used?

Diagnosing muscle and bone disorders, such as bone tumors and fractures Pinpointing the location of a tumor, infection, or blood clot Directing procedures such as surgery, biopsy, and radiation therapy Detecting and monitoring diseases and conditions such as cancer, heart disease, lung nodules, and liver masses Treating cancer monitoring the effectiveness of certain treatments, detecting internal bleeding.
