Pediatric Eye Health and Strabismus Surgery

Duane and Brown Syndromes Duane syndrome, which is a congenital anomaly, is an eye disease that occurs as a result of incorrect communication of the muscles in the eye with the nerves. Although it is generally diagnosed by the age of 9-10, it is classified as Type1-Type2 and Type3. Brown syndrome is a vision problem that occurs in the superior oblique muscle. In this syndrome, the eye looks towards the tip of the nose and the eye muscle is quite tense. A forced duction test is performed and the treatment process begins when the result is positive. Refractive errors General refractive errors of the eye; Myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism and presbyopia. Refractive errors can occur individually in the eye, or more than one refractive error can occur together. Refractive error of the eye is treated with glasses.

If not treated with glasses, eye fatigue and headache occur. At the beginning of the examination, the power of the eye is measured automatically with a device called an autorefractometer. After the treatment of the refractive error, write the lens number according to the type and degree of the defect detected at the end of the measurement and enable people to use their glasses constantly.

Detection of refractive errors is very important during childhood. It is possible to say that the most critical age range for children is 3-4 years old. It is essential to be examined by an ophthalmologist every 2 years for the detection and treatment of refractive errors.   Eye examination in babies: Following the birth process of babies, vision tests are performed within a period of 1-3 months and vision defects are detected. Eye examination in babies is performed by examining the parts of the eye by dilating the pupil with the help of some devices. If the baby is very small, it can be examined more easily and comfortably with the sedation method.

Although the first vision examination is performed 1 month after birth, a detailed eye examination within 1-2 years is important to detect eye diseases in babies and children.  Amblyopia (laziness of vision) Lazy eye, also known as amblyopia, is a condition in which one eye sees better than the other due to the inadequate development of the visual center during infancy and childhood. A person cannot see as sharply and clearly as a healthier eye with the use of contact lenses or glasses. There is no surgical treatment for amblyopia. If the need for glasses causes amblyopia, the patient's glasses treatment is started.
