Brachial Plexus Injuries

What are Brachial Plexus injuries?

The brachial plexus is a network of nerves that send signals from the spinal cord to the shoulders and arms. It may occur when nerves are stretched, compressed, or in some cases, if there are tears in the spinal cord. These injuries may occur more frequently in contact sports such as football. It also occurs as a result of damage to the plexus, which originates from the vertebrae in the neck area and forms the nerves of the arm, during birth. Some traumas can also cause this disease.

What are the symptoms of Brachial Plexus injuries?

The diagnosis of the disease is made as a result of examinations such as physical examination, shoulder MRI and EMG. Symptoms may include numbness in the shoulder, loss of sensation, numbness in the hands or arms, loss of strength in the arms and hands, and pain in the shoulders, arms or hands.

What is the treatment for Brachial Plexus injuries?

Electrical stimulation, electrotherapy, use of orthoses and other treatments in physical therapy and rehabilitation practices are successfully performed in our hospital.
